2 new section added: Doubtful height and Fake height

Postby The Tallest Man » Fri Sep 25, 2009 10:48 am

I have added 2 new sections on the website. One has the header Doubtful height and I have moved a few 'giants' into this section who's stated height is very doubtful as there is not much known about them. All of them have a reference on the internet somewhere but they are listed at such extreme heights that it becomes very doubtful.

The other section has the header Fake heights. The use is obvious. I will list 'giants' or images here which are fake, photoshopped or in any other way manipulated.

Well done.
I was surprised to see Trijntje Keever in the doubtful category. I''ve always taken her height as gospel.

Clearly the other folks you've put in the doubtful category belong there.

The others that I have suspicions about (Patterson, Fernandez, Straube, Schippers, and maybe Rogan) don't rise to that level of "doubtfulness". I also wonder if Carroll, Koch, and Coyne were as tall as claimed - but only slighly.- I have 90% confidence in these three men and maybe 80% in the preceding five I mentioned.

So you're convinced Harry Lawson is a faked photograph? I always thought it was another case of "moderate giant on incline in hat with proportional midget."

I do think she existed and was a big girl, but I don't believe anything about the height credited to her. I've seen her at over 9' tall. The lowest I have seen for her is 8'4", which is the height now adopted by Wikipedia. She might have been 7' or 7'2" max. but there is nothing we know about her so I thought why should she be amongs people of known (or almost certainly known) height? Also, 'they' claim that the painting of her is het actual height? How do they know that? They don't even know who painted it. And her shoe is very small for someone that height. I think it is a case of centuries of exaggeration.

I think the name of the giant and the impression the creator of the photo is trying to give are fake. I think it is a tall man (maybe over 7') standing next to a very short woman. Basically just like what you are thinking. But it was done on purpose because a photo like that would stir things up.

I do think I will move some others over to the 'doubtful heights' section (maybe to be renamed to 'ulnikely heights' or 'unreliable heights'. Some others I might just readjust their height based on photographs.

I think we might have to add Zhao Liao to the doubtful height list.

You are confusing me. I don't know Zhao Liao. Do you mean Zhao Liang? He is listed at 7'5.5" (227.40 cm), which I believe is about right. I know that other websites list him at well over 8', but I already downgraded him from the start. His 8'+ is not doubtful, it is just not true. Very similar to Leonid Stadnyk's 8'5" is just not true.

He is listed here...

I haven't seen any conclusive/direct evidence of Zhao Liang (Sorry for the typo Liao) that he isn't 8-1. There are a bunch of pics of him (mainly in a hostipital) but they hardily denote he's 8-1 or not. However, I denies official measurement, and that shows he most likely isn't the height he claims. He did have pics of him being measured by non-officials like Stadnik. I guess that tactic for tricking people in believing that those two actually got measured, but it wouldn't work on Guinness' stricter standards.

And where the hell is Guinness on Juncai? Don't tell me they are going to stick with Kosen for the rest of his life? If that's the case, it will be just like Sandy Allen. She held the record for an unusually long time (3 decades I believe) until her death last year. It was if she didn't want to loose her record and fame no matter what! She was basically hogging the tallest living woman record to the point where she was still listed in the 2009 GBR even though she was already dead that year.

Lastly, I think Kosen's 8-1 is most likely attributed to his corrected standing height because he only looks 7-9 or 7-10 walking around with his several spinal curvature. Given that Zhang also has similarly bad curvature and yet still measured at 7-11, it's likely he's taller than Kosen with corrected height.

Don't think so. I think he stands 8-1. I was with you. Then I saw this picture. American Tape Measures embolden the numbers at increments of a foot - so 72" is dark, 84 is dark, etc.

I this picture I can clearly see the mark that has to be 84" an inch or two below his chin. Yes, the tape bends a little- but Sultan is relaxed as well. Zoom in. He's gotta be 97" standing.

Then how tall do you think the woman standing next to him is? If he is chin is at inch or two above 84" wouldn't that make his head 'only' 12 inches long? That's kind of sounds a little two small for somebody that height. I am guessing Juncai has no chance at being taller than this guy (even if his 7-11 was measured during the evening after, normally, an inch or strinkage) as he is at least 1-2 inches taller than his 'competitors'? Maybe Brendan Adams might outgrow him one day but only maybe because I heard that lad's growth is supposedly under control.

This image puts it to bed. Kosen stands 8'1"

Furthermore I think Bruintjes stands closer to 7'4" than 7'3" - I have yet to find any listing that lists him below 7'3.9"
and in this image he's at least 7" taller than Bruintjes - and he's a bit hunched. If you think he doesn't stand 8'1" (when fully erect and in the morning before disc compression sets in) then you need to be fitted with an aluminum foil hat.

Yes his spine is oddly curved as well. Without spinal curvature he must be around 8,4"!
