Is this....? (name check: Johanna Carroll mentioned in the 1969 obituary)

Yes, Guy, this is OUR John F. Carroll. His dad was John G., his mom was Johanna and his little sister (not brother as listed in the census!) was Mary...who declined my repeated requests for an interview, unfortunately. Great find!!!

I wonder if previous census info might shed light on who his seven foot relatives were.

I think that his seven foot relatives were his own invention, meant to pull a joke on the doctors who were writing him up in a medical journal. Jack Carroll was said to be quite the practical joker. By the way, I always assumed that his middle name was "Francis", since "John Francis Carroll" sounds like a pretty good Catholic name. The possibility exists, however, that I am mistaken.

It's possible his birth certificate would give his full name, and it still exists according to that Buffalo Spree article, since they reference it.
